Paul Ferguson has two selections from Royal Ascot for us on Tuesday, Solow in the 2.35 and Make Believe at 4.20. Compare odds and bet.

French raider Solow (2:30) is fancied to land Royal Ascot’s curtain-raiser, the Queen Anne Stakes, for Freddie Head and Maxime Guyon.

The grey son of Singspiel was impressive in winning the Dubai Turf at Meydan in March, beating The Grey Gatsby by 4¼ lengths, and his prep for his trip to Berkshire went to plan, winning the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan comfortably.

Night Of Thunder and Toormore set the British standard on their Lockinge run from last month, from which third Arod came out and won at Epsom last week, but Solow has looked a notch above the home contingent and can provide the trainer/owner combination with another Queen Anne, having won the race in 2010 with Goldikova.

The St James’s Palace Stakes looks a cracking renewal, despite just six going to post, with dual 2,000 Guineas winner Gleneagles sure to be sent off pretty short.

The Newmarket and Irish hero is the form pick, while Consort is a colt regular readers will know I am a big fan of.  Sir Michael Stoute’s Lope De Vega colt takes a big step up in class here, however, and a chance is taken on French Guineas winner Make Believe (4:20) who made all to score impressively at Longchamp.

His stable-mate and runner-up New Bay came out and franked that form by winning the Prix Du Jockey Club and the Makfi colt might just be able to dictate things under Olivier Peslier, who executed the tactics extremely well last time.  At the prices, he is backing, as there is certainly a chance he can cause a minor upset.

Tuesday’s selections:
2:30 Royal Ascot: Solow; 6/4 William Hill
4:20 Royal Ascot: Make Believe; 7/2 Ladbrokes
